Sweet Dreams
I wonder what you dream of
I wonder what goes on -
When those pretty eyelids close
And the lullaby has gone?
For often I'm awakened
By the sweetest sound on earth
It's the sound of your laughter
Of merriment and mirth.
So I creep into your room
But your eyes are still shut tight
And the smile upon your face
Casts a glow into the night.
Are you playing with the angels?
Are you dancing in the sky?
Are you sliding down a moonbeam
Watching shooting stars go by?
Or are you dreaming you're like others
Who can jump and climb and run

Whisper secrets to their friends
And frolic in the sun?
How I wish that you could tell me
Where your spirit soars at night
And I wish that I could join you -
If you said that was alright.
For I want to meet your friends
With whom you laugh and play
And I want to hear the words
That so long you've tried to say.
But for now I have to be content
And let you go alone
To sing and dance on moonbeams
With friends I've never known.
So when the sound of laughter
Breaks the stillness of the night,
I'll know you're just out playing -
And that everything's alright.
